Persib Bandung Secures Vital 2-0 Win Over Bangkok United in AFC Champions League Group G
Persib Bandung claimed a crucial victory on their visit to BG Stadium, defeating Bangkok United 2-0 in their second Group G match of the 2025/2026 AFC Champions League Two campaign on Wednesday night (Oct 1).
From the outset, Persib, under the guidance of coach Bojan Hodak, adopted their trademark passive, counter-attacking style, patiently waiting for their opportunities. The first real chance came in the 21st minute when Beckham Putra attempted an acrobatic bicycle kick, but the ball flew wide of the target.
Bangkok United did not go down without a fight, creating several chances, including a powerful strike from Philipe Maia in the 34th minute. However, it was Persib who showed greater clinical finishing. Andrew Jung put the visitors ahead in the 42nd minute, giving Persib a 1-0 lead at halftime.
As the second half unfolded, Bangkok United made tactical changes, introducing Weerathep Pomphun and veteran striker Teerasil Dangda to add more offensive firepower. Their presence did offer a fresh dimension to the home side’s attack.
In the 60th minute, Persib thought they had taken the lead when Andrew Jung found the back of the net. However, celebrations were cut short as the assistant referee flagged for offside, and the referee ruled out the goal. Unfortunately for Bangkok, there was no VAR in place to review the decision.
It wasn't long before Persib sealed the win in the 71st minute. Uilliam Barros displayed a clinical finish, beating Bangkok United goalkeeper Patiwat Khammai to give Persib a well-earned 2-0 advantage.
The three points lifted Persib to second place in Group G, level on four points with leaders Lion City. Bangkok United, on the other hand, remained in third with three points.
